New Homes for Kentucky Flooding Victims

August 02, 2024

Historic flooding hit eastern Kentucky in 2022, damaging thousands of homes. FHLB Cincinnati’s Disaster Reconstruction Program (DRP) stepped in to provide needed funding for rebuilding efforts. First established in 2012, the program was created to be a standing response to natural disasters that occur in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.

Now, two years after the flooding, FHLB Cincinnati welcomed eleven families to their new homes built by nonprofit organization Appalachia Service Project (ASP) with the use of DRP funds. The homes will house eastern Kentucky flood survivors including the Jarvis family (pictured right).

Grants of up to $20,000 per household, which are available to nonprofit organizations through FHLB Cincinnati members, were used to help homeowners purchase or construct a single-family home or rehabilitate an existing single-family home that suffered damage from the flooding. ASP worked with FHLB member Bank of Tennessee to access DRP funds, which they used to help construct and rehabilitate homes throughout eastern Kentucky.

Congratulations to the families, ASP, Bank of Tennessee and the many other partners on this achievement. To learn more about DRP and current eligible counties, visit the program page.
